History

The land on which Tierboskloof is located was bought at an auction in 1928 by the internationally renowned entomologist Dr Sydney Skaife.

After frequent visits to their newly acquired “nature resort”, the Skaifes fell in love with the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity and built themselves a temporary cottage for quiet weekends.

After several visits to this cottage, Dr Skaife and his wife became so enchanted with the natural ambience of the property that they upgraded their residence and made it their permanent home.

They moved into the house in January 1935 and the little thatched cottage became Dr Skaife’s entomological laboratory, affectionately known today as ‘The Skaife Cottage’.

In 1990 the property was sold to developers who, with careful planning moulded Tierboskloof into the unique Residential Private Estate that it is today.
