Within the estate itself is an Afromontane Forest that includes many rare and protected indigenous trees. Afromontane forests generally occur in well-watered areas, including ravines and north-facing slopes. The Tierboskloof example is one of very few in the Western Cape.

Bordering onto the Table Mountain Reserve, the mountain offers a unique natural environment. Of the 8 200 plant species found here, approximately 80% of these are fynbos and many are endemic. Natural waterfalls, indigenous forests, many bird species and plentiful fynbos are among the many delights that can be seen and relished at ‘Tierboskloof’.

Streams flow from the mountain into the Estate, attracting abundant bird, animal and insect life. Regular visitors to the estate include Sugar Birds, Black Eagles, Shrikes, Sunbirds, Night Jars and the Spotted Eagle Owl.

One of the most special features of Tierboskloof is the choice of mountain trails and walks. These include a 20-minute hike up to a hidden valley along the Baviaanskloof River that reveals a year round waterfall. Less energetic residents may equally access shorter walks that meander through many species of fauna and flora.
